Writing Prompt: Cat Fiction

After the success of "A Dog's Purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron, stories told from a dog's perspective are all the rage.  But, I have to wonder if that success would extend to the more aloof species known as the cat.  Cats seem to know their purpose and only grudgingly acknowledge a purpose for humanity.  Perhaps we exist simply to open cans of cat food?

Nevertheless, I snapped a quick picture of this feral fellow looking down at me from his perch high atop a retaining wall.  Let's write a short piece of fiction involving -

Writing Prompt: A Superhero Comes Along

Comic books and graphic novels have shown enduring popularity.  Unfortunately, drawing comic books isn't easy for everyone.  However, since you are in the privacy of your own home, whip out a pen, pencil, and some paper and draw a superhero of your own.  Your drawing is just the bonus portion of today's exercise.  After the exercise, you can post your hero on your refrigerator door so that all who gaze upon it will be impressed.

Writing Prompt: Write About Area 51

Today is the day that the Air Force's mysterious Groom Lake Training Facility (popularly known as Area 51) is supposed to get stormed by legions of curious people looking for aliens.  I know that none of the people in our writing community are daft enough to make an unauthorized visit, but Area-51 has certainly provided fodder for science fiction writers, UFO enthusiasts, and conspiracy theorists for years.

Today's writing prompt is to create a story from the safety of your own home that involves Area 51.  Let your imagination answer the big questions of whether the mysterious base houses aliens and their spacecraft.  Have fun!

Writing Prompt: Mysterious Guidance

In myths, religions, and some works of fiction, mankind receives guidance from mysterious sources.  In rural Georgia, there is a stone work called The Georgia Guidestones.  It is inscribed with controversial guidance in multiple languages on how mankind should perhaps govern itself for healthy growth.  The organization that funded the construction of these guidestones remains shrouded in mystery.  Today, some people believe that a mysterious religious order called the Rosicrucians secretly funded the stones.

Writing Prompt: Ancient Treasure

Literature is filled with quests for special items.  From Jason's quest for the golden fleece to Indiana Jones' quest for the Lost Ark, some things people just have to have.  When you look around your home, do you have something that could be special with a little embellishment?

The Golden Rhino
Our collection of nicknacks and home decor items offers many candidates.  For example, we have this golden bust of a rhinoceros head.  Ordinarily, it's just a piece of manly decor to brighten up some Hemingway style home furnishings.  But, when a writer brings imagination, it could be a legendary object.  Perhaps it is the fabled Golden Rhino?

For today's writing prompt, either use something in your home or this piece of Rhino decor and write a short story where it is a fabled object of great importance.  Let it be the kind of object people would fight or kill for.  Write a story of a --
